NHS Employers is calling for a pay uplift in 2009/10 for doctors and dentists working in the NHS to be limited to 2 per cent. On behalf of employers, we argue that a balance has to be struck between fairness to staff and affordability for organisations. In evidence submitted to the Doctors and Dentists Review Body (DDRB), and released last week, we also recognise that inflationary pressures and efficiency expectations are putting pressure on services, and any unfunded cost pressures from pay – which makes up a majority of NHS spending – could threaten patient care. For more details see our pay review pages.
