Two reports published last week, Nurses in Society: starting the debate and State of the art metrics for nursing: a rapid appraisal, address the question of whether nursing has lost its way, contribute to the national debate on the role of nurses, and consider possible outcome indicators for nursing. Many of the issues raised are already being addressed at national level and NHS Employers looks forward to playing our part in the ongoing development of the profession. Employers support the proposals for nursing to become an all-graduate profession, but we know this will also present new challenges for recruitment and management of skill mix, and will require robust transition plans. See our nursing pages for more details.
